A plastic sold under the name RPET is made from used PET bottles. The empty bottles are collected, cleaned, and shredded. The material is then melted and processed into a component of the finished film, which is used in packaging, among other things.

The new method is also particularly energy-efficient because significantly less oil needs to be processed into polymers.
